Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine is a very powerful, holistic approach to treating stress and anxiety. Acupuncture for Anxiety not only provides symptomatic relief for neurotransmitters but also addresses the core causes of anxiety by treating organ function and the relationship with emotions. It can bring a sense of peace, harmony and emotional wellbeing to your life.
How Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine can help with Stress and Anxiety
I have treated many patients with Anxiety over the last decade whose ages ranged from 12 to 87 years. Among my patients are women trying to conceive, professionals such as university lecturers, teachers, lawyers, bank managers, office workers, government officials, students and stay at home mums. The results have shown that Chinese Medicine can be very effective. For example, the “Yi-Gan San” herbal formula has been researched and published about in PubMed.
My anxiety patients can be separated into two groups;
The first group can be quite challenging, as it’s difficult to identify their exact complication. They often present with a range of different symptoms which are not immediately or obviously linked to anxiety, such as tension headaches, neck and shoulder pain, heart palpitations, nausea, butterflies in their stomach, IBS, bloating, sinus problems, shortness of breath, energy fluctuations, anger, agitation, insomnia, and panic attacks.
With the second group of people, my main focus is to support their organ function and reduce side affects resulting from their medications. During this process, some of my patients begin to reduce their dose of anti-depressants. With every patient, I pay attention to the complete physiological and psychological make up to gather all relevant information.
This information gathering is woven together until it forms what Chinese medicine calls a “pattern of disharmony”.
Following the disharmony pattern allows me to formulate an individually tailored program of acupuncture points and Chinese herbs to treat the individual. The combination of channel theory and an understanding of the nervous system allow me to provide my patients with the best results in a short period of time.
In fact, acupuncture needles may stimulate the release of Endorphins, Dopamine, Serotonin, and Melatonin.
In Western Physiology emotional and mental processes are attributed to the brain. However, in Chinese Medicine they are part of the sphere of action of the internal organs. The state of the organ will affect emotions and emotions will affect the state of the organ.
The Heart relates to joy, the Liver to anger, the Lungs to sadness and worry, the Spleen to thought and the Kidneys to fear.
These emotions usually only became a cause of imbalance when they are excessive and prolonged. By treating a specific organ, we can influence the particular emotion related to that organ and help a person to achieve a more balanced emotional state.
After Acupuncture treatments my patients feel instantly relaxed
and with further support from herbal medicines, this condition is sustained.
